Quiz Night Success

Our Quiz took place this Saturday and was enjoyed by all who attended. The food supplied by Mr Luigi of the Stow was excellent and our quiz masters Adam and Julie Emery excelled themselves and were highly entertaining. The photo is of a representative of the winning team, The Sub Omeba's, being presented with their prize of a case of wine as donated by Joan Morgan. All our raffle prizes were donated by either parents or my own work colleagues. Thank you to all of them! Much appreciated. The "Friends" put in a big effort to make this night the success it was with a full hall. The total profit has not yet been calculated but I will update this with the figures when I receive them.

Our next event is of a far more demanding nature .... yep its time to organise the Christmas Bazaar which will take place on Friday 14th December. Details to follow.

September 10th 1st Meeting of the New Term

Another Term - Another season of activities.

This Autumn/Winter term we have several events lined up.
Autumn Disco on Thursday 11th October 5pm to 6pm for Infants
6:15pm to 7:15 for Juniors.

We will be holding a quiz night for adults only on (date to be advised) so get your thinking caps on. The cost of the tickets will be £6.50 which will include either chicken and chips, sausage and chips and the vegetarian option is vegetable pancake and funnily enough..chips. Quiz will take place at 7:00pm for 7:30pm start at the WI Hall in old Harlow.
One thing for certain though...we'll be asking parents, teacher, work colleagues and governors to get together teams of 6 and that they would bring their own drinks, including soft drinks. There will also be a raffle. Donations welcome!

It may be a little early to think about Christmas, but the bazaar is a huge undertaking so we've set the date for Friday 6th December. Full details nearer the time. We'll be calling out for as many volunteers as possible to ensure a fun and successful event. Someone special may be lurking around on the premises so keep your eyes peeled for a man in red! HO HO HO

Another thing to look out for will be home produced calendars for 2008. We're all really excited about putting these together.

Things to do in the Holidays...

Does the 6 week holidays feel like 6 years, already running out of activities that don't involve lots of expense?
Here are few little tips I'd like to share with you.

There are lots of free tennis courts in Harlow - look out for cheap tennis and badminton racquets in the pound shop. Head off to the courts, expend some energy and keep boredom at bay.

Take advantage of the vouchers on the Nestle Cereal Boxes - we used the pool at the Swallow Churchgate for nothing...nice pool - shame about the changing rooms. Don't take my word for it, go have a look.
Check out the Harlow Museum for cheap activities - mainly arts and crafts - perfect for just grabbing them (the kids that is) shoving them in the car just to get them out of the house when things get fraught.
If the weather is fine, use the paddling pools at the Normal Booth, Sumners etc.

Don't forget the Wild Read. I like this one because they get a certificate and a medal, the certificates are presented in the assembly at school - always a boost to their esteem.
Try making some play dough. Here is a tried and tested method.
1 cup of plain flour
1 cup of salt
1/2 cup of vegetable oil
1 cup of water
food colouring
2 teaspoons of cream of tartar.
Stir it all together till smooth. cook on full in the microwave for 4 mins, removing every minute to stir. Allow to cool. For added sparkle add some glitter. Keep in an airtight container. Lasts for ages.
